3.0 English Expression (Written)

English Expression is shaped by a writer’s choice of diction, sentence style/structure and paragraph organisation. For a writer to create a desired effect, he/she must ensure, in the first place, that his/her choice of language will be appropriate to the set task. Then the organisation of content and the crafting of the sentences and paragraphs should enable him/her to achieve clarity, concision, precision and cohesion. If the writer does not make the effort to write clearly and concisely, the intended meaning could be camouflaged or lost in a maze of complicated structures, called convoluted style. So a dynamic piece of writing is not an accident but a result of the writer’s deliberate application of acquired skills to the task on hand.
