A Letter From School Camp
Text Structure | Dear Nana and Pop | Language features |
Paragraph 1. | On Wednesday we set off for our class 1camp in the 1Blue Mountains. Yesterday we had archery and 2then in the afternoon we went on a trail 1ride. | 1. |
Paragraph 2. | 2Today is our science day and we have been learning about the clouds and the sky. 2First thing this morning we couldn't see anything but mist which Miss Elias said was a very low layer of stratus clouds. Luckily the wind soon got up and blew it all 3quickly away and later in the morning along 5came flocks of cumulus clouds. I like these because you can make all sorts of pictures out of their 4different shapes and these 3really did look like lots of 4little sheep | 2. 3. 4. |
Paragraph 3. | Not so good though was watching the clouds build up into great big heaps of cumulonimbus thunderheads in the afternoon. Sure enough there was a storm when the lightning 5flashed and thunder 5crashed. (I'm a poet and didn't know it!) It was quite exciting but scary too and I'm glad it's over now. | 5. |
Paragraph 4.
Stage 5. |
Tonight we are going to do some star-gazing because there is no moon and then tomorrow we come home, back to polluted Sydney. We could see the air pollution on the way up here - yuk - and it will be sad in a way to leave the lovely Blue Mountains.
But I'm looking forward to seeing you soon too. Not long till the holidays. Lots of love, Alex |
NOTE: Only part of Alex's letter is a recount. Like most 'real-life' writing, it is a mixture of text types
